The event features an Irish dinner, music and dancing along with thepresentation of the Irish Shilleagh award. This award is presented to researchers and doctors who are world leaders in the field of Alpha-1 research.
This year the award was presented to Professor Gerry McElvaney. Prof. McElvaney is Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the RCSI. He also runs the only dedicated Alpha-1 clinic in Ireland based at Beaumont Hospital. You can read the full article here.

It severely affects more than 15,000 people, with another 250,000 carriers also at risk of lung and liver disease on the island of Ireland. It is a proven genetic risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
