We are delighted to announce that the Annual Alpha-1 Conference for 2013 will take place on Friday 11th October at 10am in Marino Institute of Education on leafy Griffith Avenue in Drumcondra on the northside of Dublin.
Alpha-1’s and their families are invited to attend. We would especially like to welcome all newly diagnosed Alpha-1’s and parents of children diagnosed with Alpha-1. Special guest is Joe Brolly, advocate for organ donation, barrister and gaelic football analyst. The exciting line-up of speakers includes Professor Gerry McElvaney, a lung specialist at Beaumont Hospital, a research geneticist, and Michael McGloin who is a COPD patient group advocate. Attendance is free of charge with a complimentary lunch provided.

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (Alpha-1) is a genetic condition which, after cystic fibrosis, is the commonest genetic disorder in Ireland. It severely affects more than 15,000 people, with another 250,000 carriers also at risk of lung and liver disease on the island of Ireland. It is a proven genetic risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
