If you or someone you know has had a child recently diagnosed with Alpha-1 it can be a very stressful time for the whole family. Most often, children get a diagnosis of Alpha-1 due to liver problems they may be having from a very young age.
Thankfully, for the majority of children born with Alpha-1 the liver problems that appear in early life will go away. To help children and families better understand Alpha-1, there are a range of age appropriate books available from the US Alpha-1 Foundation written for 0 – 8 year olds, 8 – 11 year olds, and teenagers.
